The Tingler

So, apparently they are remaking the Castle film classic, The Tingler. I don't know if anyone reading this has actually seen The Tingler. I would bet that nobody here has seen The Tinger in the theatre, including me. The Tingler was one of the original classic horror movies that relied on the theatre to make the movie fun. There were buzzers attached to seats and there were plants in the audience to act out or do something to make it fun. The very story behind the movie is to illicit a reaction from the audience. The Tinger is a creature that attacks your spine and causes a tingling sensation and the only way to avoid it or kill it is to scream. So, obviously, a buzzer on a few seats would ilicit those screams needed to kill The Tinglers loose in the theater. In theory, those people screaming would cause others to scream. All of this adds up to a fun time in the movie.
I'm not sure that this movie should be remade because of it's reliance on theatrical gags in the actual theatre showing the movie. I doubt that any theatres here are going to attach buzzers to their seats or pay for plants in the theatre to jump up or act out during the movie. So, the fun and the whole point of the movie is lost. I guess we'll see what they do with it.

I actually did see the original Tingler movie in the theater. And there weren't buzzers under the seats, that turned out to be an urban myth. The movie wasn't really very scary either because it was unintentionally campy so most of us had a couple of good laughs and a few people screamed as a joke.
